The best offshore strategy is not to move everything. It is to move the right work. Some tasks depend heavily on local presence, client relationships, regulated authority or immediate site context. Others are repeatable, digital and measurable, making them well suited to remote specialists.
Keep local work local when presence is the value
Site inspections, relationship management, high-stakes negotiation, final regulated advice and work requiring local professional sign-off often need to remain with local staff or licensed practitioners.
Move production where the output can be defined
Bookkeeping production, reconciliations, technical documentation, take-offs, drawing production, reporting, operations follow-up, social media scheduling and document control can often be performed remotely when systems and standards are clear.
Use risk to decide
Ask what happens if the task is wrong. The higher the consequence, the stronger the review and approval process should be. High-risk does not always mean “cannot be offshore”; it often means “must have tighter controls.”
Consider communication intensity
Some roles require constant informal interaction and immediate local judgement. Others can operate effectively through scheduled meetings, structured queues and documented workflows. Match the communication model to the work.
Do not ignore management cost
A cheap role that consumes hours of local supervision is not cheap. The best offshore work is defined well enough that management focuses on exceptions and review rather than daily rescue.
